Air travel

Puffy clouds from Berlin tegel and a fuzzy New York City skyline.

Temperamental weather

I suppose this is one way to do spring. Every 15 minutes the weather shifts from sunny to grey to raining to a wintry mix. Here is sleet(?) from my window at work yesterday:

And I took the pretty way down the hill from work:

Wardrobes!

Despite being busier than ever lately, we decided it would be a good time to put in wardrobes. Before this. Our clothes were in a bookcase, a clothes rack, and a few under-bed boxes.

Hooray for organization!

Blue skies outside ostbahnhof

It was cold this morning (especially after sunny Rome), but the afternoon was a bit nicer, with blue skies and puffy clouds.

Central Rome

We went lower key on the tourism today with a walk through central Rome. Here are two walking pictures:

Castel Sant'Angelo and Piazza Navona. We then saw the Parthenon:

And the awesome Trevi Fountain:

We took the rest of the day a little slow; we fly early tomorrow!

Ostia Antica

The forecast was rain, but the actual weather was sunny with a few puffy clouds. We took the train out to Ostia Antica, an excavation site with the ruins of Rome's former port town.

We brought a problem cynic lunch, which David carried:

And we wandered around particularly well-signed ruins. One of the most interesting features were the floor mosaics:

Which they are actively working to restore:

But it was generally awesome and a really neat chance to see a full town that hadn't been built over by the new residents:

Ostia Antika

Visiting Ostia Antika was a real treat.  The site was covered in beautiful wild flowers, and there was very little restriction on where you could go - you could explore the ruins virtually unimpeded.

Many of the walls were still decorated with colorful frescoes and friezes.

The sheer number of salvaged marble statues, signs, columns, and sarcophagi were staggering - a lot of the artifacts were "stored" in open hallways that were only guarded by flimsy iron gates.

Adventures in Rome

This is a delayed post for yesterday. We toured the Vatican museum, had some delicious lunch, toured the forum and palatine hill, got stuck in an elevator for a half hour, and had some amazing dinner. Here is a collection of some of those events:

Italian vacation

We are in Rome, staying near the Vatican. Even in a short walk from the train to our airbnb, we saw some scenery. We then sat on a terrace and took in an amazing view. Hooray!

A not so scenic picture of out venue for tonight's concert: the kaiser-wilhelm memorial church.

Wardrobes and skies

I spent much of my free time today putting together our new wardrobes:

And David captured a nice picture of the sky over frankfurter tor:

The first avenger

I am a pretty big fan of superhero movies, so I immediately noticed something funny about this poster:

In the U.S. market, it's Captian America: Civil War. I guess I'd expect that Captain America world have an alternate title in other parts of the world.

Spargelhof

This stand popped up across the street from my bus stop in Potsdam. Despite the strawberry, "Spargel" definitely translates to asparagus.

Gathering to watch sportsball

It's not quite warm out, but since it's not cold either there were plenty of people gathered around outdoor screens watching tonight's sportsball contest.

Spring green?

The building is Schwarzschildhaus at the AIP, but I really took the picture because there are finally some buds on the trees!
