Xmas tree, 2016 edition

We finally found a half hour to decorate the mini tree. Happy holidays! 

Birthday!

I turned 32 this weekend, and we had a small dinner party. I took one picture, in which some of our guests are hanging the Happy Birthday banner (which was brought special delivery from my parents' kitchen)! 

Cleaner!

Thanks to a heroic effort by David, our fridge is cleaner than its been in a long time. Also, there are some pretty delicious leftovers in it!

Wardrobes!

Despite being busier than ever lately, we decided it would be a good time to put in wardrobes. Before this. Our clothes were in a bookcase, a clothes rack, and a few under-bed boxes.

I spent much of my free time today putting together our new wardrobes:

Again from ikea: we got wardrobes! Unassembed, they look something like this: 

Electronic music

David set up his dj station today because we hosted his electronic music group! 

Improvised drying

Without a dryer, the most unwieldy part of laundry are sheets and comforter covers. 

Clean!

We hired a cleaner, and one surprise feature of the cleaning was a ribbon declaring out toilet clean! 

Three OS

Ever since David got me this lovely computer to broaden the available games, I've had access to three different operating systems: windows at home, Linux at work, and Mac on my laptop. 

I mostly use my laptop, even with all these options!

In the kitchen

I spent a quiet day at home chasing off the tail end of my cold and cooking and cleaning. I tried homemade granola for the first time:

Flowers!

I think these are the first flowers we've had in the house. David got them for me, hooray! 

Resting

I'm still under the weather, but hopefully proper hydration will speed my recovery.

Home entertainment

As I continue to be sick, here is our new projector TV setup. I am recovering in comfort and style!

And stayed home from work today, it's as good a time as any to show the current state of our dining room. Still a work in progress, but useful!

A belated post for Jan 11: most of my first day back in Berlin was spent chilling in this chair, trying not to sleep.

This mini tree has come with me on every move. I don't think I've used it every year, but I have put it up in Riverside, New York, Seattle, Columbus, and now Berlin. Hooray!

Furniture rearranging

We did some furniture rearranging today, and this is the current state of what used to be our spare room. It feels nice and homelike. 

For the spare room

We ended up renting a really big apartment, and our first load of furniture actually left us with a spare room. It housed our boxes for a while, and then it turned into my sewing room. We finally got to IKEA today and here is the furniture for it:

Among other odds and ends, there's a couch and a dining room set in there. We also tried an independent delivery service instead of IKEA delivery, and it worked super well. 

Assembly progress so far: 9/23, mostly the easiest stuff.
