Old u-bahn

A common motif in u-bahn station decorating is pictures of old u-bahn stations. This one is kottbusser tor in kreuzberg!

In Kreuzberg

In addition to my usual sorts of activities, I also went to two museums last week! Today I'll do my usual weekly photos post, and tomorrow I'll talk about the museums.

These are all pictures from hanging out in and around Kreuzberg. First, a sign that was up in the building where I meet with my new choir (I'm now in two)!

The moon, a biker, and a typical street:

A creatively illustrated driving school:

And a picture of the Berlin sunset, looking northwest from the south end of the Oberbaumbrücke (Oberbaum Bridge):

Weekly photos and David's show

Photos from the last week include Franfurter Tor from a different angle:

A house decorated with flowers:

A small, everyday reminder of the Berlin wall - I think this part runs between Kreuzberg and Neukölln:

And finally, a picture of David performing some live electronic music! His collective had a show/party/event that was pretty fun. If you want to hear some of his beats, you can try his soundcloud.

Three weeks of July

And not all that many photos to show for it. My phone was not cooperating, so these are all from David. I've got that sorted out now, so this will be the first in my weekly photo posts - I'll aim for every Monday! (My wrote this Monday of this week, but my iPad did not cooperate and post it).

This strange alter was set up in a coffee shop/bar in kreuzberg where some of David's friends put on an electronic music show.

I finally bought some of the "DDR" ice cream I've seen advertised. It's pretty typical soft serve - I think the shell is what gives its name.

I don't even know what this ad says, but it probably has something to do with pugs in shark costumes.

We saw a protest pass by when we were eating on the patio of a restaurant. I think the message was mostly anti-capitalism, though it's always tough to tell with all the signs in German.

Live music

Yesterday, we saw live music twice! The first was during the culture carnival, where we saw a friend of David's play in a pop/funk/rock band (pictures below) and the second was my friend Brie's Jazz duo in a little cafe (no pictures this time).

Out and about

First, we noticed that Uncle Tom's Cabin in actually an u-bahn stop:

And then, a late night statue in kreuzberg:

Jazz singer

Tonight we headed to kreuzberg to listen to my friend Brie (she sings with my choir, but she's a pro) do a few sets of jazz songs. She sounded great and the beer list was nice. Hooray Friday!

Street musicians

We were out at dinner when two street musicians showed up - a trumpet and a bass guitar. We were prepared for the worst, but they were really good and super pleasant to listen to. I asked David to take a picture, but he ended up taking a picture of mostly me instead.

Also, I had a delicious burrito for dinner. Win.
